Passport About to Expire? Understand Renewal Fees, Documents Needed, and Other Important Information

Share

A passport is a necessary document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer and permits travel for business, pleasure, or education. For adults, it is valid for 10 years from the date of issuance; thereafter, renewal is necessary. One year before expiration or up to three years following, the renewal procedure may be started. To prevent delays that can interfere with travel arrangements, it is recommended to begin the renewal procedure at least nine months before the expiration date.
