The film, which is being funded by A24, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Michael Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr. Considering Aster’s past performance, audiences can only anticipate nightmares from the movie, according to Variety.

Apart from the fact that the movie “follows a small-town New Mexico sheriff with higher aspirations,” plot specifics are kept under wraps. Under the Square Peg moniker, Aster, Lars Knudsen, and others are writing, directing, and producing “Eddington,” which will go into production this week.

Variety reports that Darius Khondji, a two-time Academy Award contender, is the director of photography. Square Peg and A24 have worked together on six projects together, including “Eddington,” which is the culmination of their production and distribution of Aster’s three prior films, “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “Beau Is Afraid,” in addition to “Dream Scenario” and the impending “Death of a Unicorn.”

Phoenix just received a Golden Globe nomination for his leading role in Aster’s dark comedy horror film “Beau Is Afraid,” which is set in 2023 and centers on a disturbed man who visits his mother. Stone just won her second Academy Award for her leading role in the Showtime series “The Curse,” which she co-starred in alongside Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, and for producing Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.”

While Pascal is starring in Ethan Coen’s “Drive Away Dolls” and contributing to HBO’s “The Last of Us” Season 2, Butler is now starring in “Dune: Part Two” and Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders,” which is scheduled to open in theaters soon.
